Rolling Stone has a prediction for the next five states to achieve marriage equality. This should happen within five years. The states are:
* New Mexico. The issue is before their Supreme Court and should be an easy win. Several counties permit it already.
* Oregon. Likely to be on the ballot in 2014 and will likely pass.
* Michigan. Its marriage protection amendment is before a federal judge. The trial resumes in February. This one isn't a sure thing.
* Virginia. The case is just beginning its journey through the courts. The reason why this one is in the list is that Olson and Boies, the lawyers who took the Calif. case all the way to the Supremes, are leading our team. Still, it isn't a sure thing.
* Nevada. The issue is both before the 9th Circuit Court (just filed) and before the legislature. To remove the marriage protection amendment lawmakers must approve removal in two separate sessions (such as before and after elections in 2014). Then it goes before the voters, likely in 2016.
Also possible in 2016 are Colorado, Ohio, Utah (!), and Pennsylvania.
