Cardinal Timothy Dolan of New York is whining. He says the Catholic message on gays has been "outmarketed." Our message somehow holds more sway than his. It must be Hollywood, politicians, and opinion-molders that make our message win.
So, yeah, right, politicians have always been on our side.
Timothy Kincaid of *Box Turtle Bulletin* says the source of the Cardinal's woes is much closer to home. Parents realized their sons didn't need to worry about Hairdresser Joe but did need to be warned about Father Joe. Then when the Church discussed same-sex couples, they did it in the nastiest language possible. Outmarketed? Yup. By themselves.
A commenter clarifies: The Catholic Church was out-compassioned.
